It’s with honour and respect that I compose this book review write up. As in my first day’s of this very – earth cycle, I have always been around literature, writing, music- the arts as a whole. A keen author myself, still to this day. I know- how hard it is on the many levels that present themselves.
On entering back into the world of reading, many years ago now, during my late twenties no less, after great encouragement from my now amazing wife. I have endeavoured on reading many a great novelist. Sir- Dan Simmons being at the top of that very list. This passage is not about that list. On no! Recently, this year I have had the honour of discovering the dizzying heights of- Isabella Maldonado. Starting with the epic- ‘Blood’s Echo’. The first in the ‘Veranda Cruz’ series. This is a high impact, hard hitting, roller coaster of a story! True – ‘edge of your seat stuff’ indeed. The lead character is incredible (Veranda Cruz.) ‘Sam Stark’ as the number two. However it must be denoted- that I am personally unsure, if I have encountered as such- a ‘bad element’ as villainous foes- as the family in this story…
That is not a light assessment at all- believe you me!… No Mam! – No Sir! Aside from Dean Koontz, Dan Simmons– I would say personally that this threat of evil, is a well rounded 5/5- 10/10. (No spoilers so I shall leave it right there.)
I am always a little ‘hesitant’ as I feel many are, in the sense of starting the sequel to any book series. Mainly objectifying if the author can one, keep it going, two maintain the pace speed of the story, three, keep the characters strong, reliable etc. Well my friend’s Isabella Maldonado superseedes herself in the followup – ‘Phoenix Burning’.
I am reading from the Kindle format, currently in the ’80%’ zone. Once again – the twists, the turns, the overall ploy’s – plot are so well woven together the tension is beyond belief. Fully engrossing the reader into another white knuckle roller coaster- over and over…
Needless to say I am exceedingly – looking forward to getting my reading teeth into the two followup’s- ‘Death Blow’. ‘Exit wound’. All be it a littler when I finally get to the final instalment.
