Legendary DJ and producer DJ Rap returns with her latest single ‘Firing Shots‘. Released on her own imprint, Propa Talent, it’s a high-octane club banger that leaves the mind activated, another stellar addition to a back catalogue that needs no introduction.
‘Firing Shots‘ opens with an amorphous pad arrangement. Ethereal and cloud-like, it floats through the speakers to create a weightless atmosphere in the tune’s opening moments.
Joining this sound is a pitch-bent vocal sample, modulated synths and drum arrangements. The latter builds to a fever pitch, drops and goes again as DJ Rap blends in an old-school rave sample, leaving the listener in anticipation for the verse. When the verse hits, ‘Firing Shots‘ becomes an all-action dancefloor banger.
Distorted basslines fly through the speaker while a rapid-fire drum line skates underneath them; It’s exhilarating, a constant burst of forward motion decorated by the signal-jammed sample of the emcee. An experienced dancefloor conductor, DJ Rap knows the need for a breather. Among the sonic madness comes a breakbeat section, in which Rap layers with stargazing, rave-like melodies. They are brief in scope, but when the main sounds return to the mix, the body is ready to move to the sounds like the first time it heard them.
Firing Shots will arrive to Beatporth and Spotify on 16th September, landing on all digital platforms two weeks later on 30th September.

Released this October via her very own Propa Talent imprint, “Back & Forth” audibly leans into the futuristic aesthetic reflected in its artwork. Punctuated by pulsating bleeps, the song soon sees hushed vocals and warped basslines bleeding through the mix, culminating in cinematic results. Working its way up to giddying climaxes anchored on striking synth stabs, stuttering breaks and a seductive spoken-word topline, it’s another hit in the making for DJ Rap. “Back & Forth” hits Beatport and Spotify on Friday 15 October, and will be available via a full range of digital service providers the following fortnight on Friday 29 October 2021.
